Buckner/ Cliff Temple Collaboration

* General Description:

Buckner Children & Family Services and Cliff Temple Baptist Church have partnered to provide community ministries and services for the surrounding Oak Cliff community in Dallas. Both are committed to “Building a Healthier Community.”

* Services:

- Emergency Client Assistance: Goslin Care Ministry provides client assistance through food, food vouchers, some clothing & clothing referrals, furniture, and legal aid services. Food Stamp Outreach Program is available bi-monthly through North Texas Food Bank representatives. Hours of operation are M-F from 9am-12pm & 1pm-3:30pm and Thursdays from 1-3:30pm.

- Seasonal Community Events: Community Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Back 2 School Bash (children provided with school supplies, shoes, backpacks), Thanksgiving Turkey Day, Christ in Christmas (Christmas toys provided to children in collaboration with Buckner/Cliff Temple & Marines’ Toys 4 Tots)

- Coordination of community programs: providing educational programs for children, youth, and families in the community (i.e. Bilingual – Parenting, Job Readiness, Enrichment activities; English as a Second Language & GED preparation classes – in the near future). Outside agencies invited to provide services.

- Crisis Intervention: individuals and families are given the opportunity to improve their circumstances through resource coordination and casework support. Services provided as needed.

- Translation Assistance: assistance for Spanish-speaking individuals in communicating with (through verbal or written means) other agencies, service providers, and community entities. Services provided as needed.

- Community Education Awareness: enhance one’s awareness of its surrounding community through trainings (i.e. Gang Awareness, Cultural Diversity Awareness, Mental Illness, etc.)

* Volunteer Opportunities:

We need dedicated volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of children and families.

Emergency Client Assistance: Help interview people, restock shelves, organize donations, and load/unload supplies.

- On-Call Volunteers: Be an “on-call” volunteer to help with miscellaneous needs. Specify your areas of interest and help out at times convenient with your schedule. We’ll work with you to find the right niche for you.

-Speakers: Professionals that would like to come and share as part of a life skills group.

-Teachers: To help teach educational classes for the community.

-Attorneys: To provide free legal aid services. Set your own hours, anytime Monday through Friday between 9am and 4pm.

-Community Events: Help plan/organize and/or help on day of event.
