Possibilities

The next two weeks hold some of the most exciting possibilities for all of us.

Michelle Collins Ordination – Michelle has been serving as our Children’s Minister since October, 2003.  The new life she has breathed into this vital ministry has been evidence of God’s calling and gift in her life for this work.  Sunday night, February 13, we will ordain Michelle to the gospel ministry in Bassett Chapel at 6:00 .  An ordination council will meet from 5:00-5:30 in the chapel and the service will be followed by a reception in the Reception Room.  Julie Pennington-Russell, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Waco, will preach the service.  Sunday night will be truly wonderful.

Community Town Hall Meeting – Tuesday night, February 15, our church will host a Town Hall meeting for people all over the Oak Cliff area.  The Dallas Police and members of the City Council will facilitate this very important opportunity for our community to discuss the latest initiatives to fight crime in our part of the city.  That evening we need to be both good hosts and participants.  This is what it means to be the presence of Christ in our city.

Deacon Retreat – Our deacons will meet in retreat in the Fellowship Hall Friday, February 18 and Saturday, February 19.  Ken Hall, president of Buckner Baptist Benevolences, will be our guest banquet speaker that Friday evening.  On Saturday, our deacons will organize for ministry in 2005.  Deacon spouses are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Celebration of Worship – On Sunday night, February 20, we will conduct the first of six alternative worship experiences.  The Jeff Berry Band will lead us in worship that evening.  This is not a concert.  It is a worship experience.  I will bring a brief message, and the music will be the very best.  This is simply one more way of opening another door through which people may enter the Kingdom.
